'Budlings'

Where Discovery Grows into Understanding

9-11 Years | Term Based | Homeschool Educational Resources

Learning begins with curiosity...

and a little bit of dirt under the fingernails.

..............................................

When curiosity starts asking “What happens if…?” and “How can I prove it?” — your learner has become a Budling.

This stage turns simple observation into deeper exploration, connecting science, creativity, and care.

Budlings design small experiments, record findings, and begin to see patterns — learning that knowledge grows through observation, patience, and heart.

“A Budling learns that every answer begins with a question...
and every question begins with wonder.”

Learning Foundations
  • (STEM • SEL • Soft Skills)

STEM — Real Experiments, Real Thinking

Budlings learn to test ideas through controlled change — light vs. shade, water vs. dryness — and record data in meaningful ways.

They begin forming hypotheses, analyzing patterns, and using evidence to explain outcomes.

    SEL — Confidence & Cooperation

Activities promote mindful teamwork, respect for living things, and confidence through independent study.

Students explore how persistence and care influence results — in science and in life.

Soft Skills — Critical Thinking & Creativity

Each challenge develops communication, reflection, and flexible problem-solving — turning curiosity into competence.

Wigglewood Newt Academy was created here in WA — where the soil, sun, and seasons inspire every lesson.

Each program aligns with WA homeschooling standards and is written to grow confidence, care, and connection — not just academic outcomes.

Wigglewood Parent Resources

Helping you guide, record, and celebrate learning that grows.

Behind every thriving Wigglewood learner is a parent (or carer) quietly tending to the roots — encouraging, recording, and cheering on small discoveries.

The Wigglewood Newt Academy Soul Project Program is here to make that role easier.

You’ll find guidance notes, printable templates, and practical advice that connects each Wigglewood Homeschool Guide to the WA Curriculum and Homeschooling Standards.

Homeschooling through Wigglewood isn’t about ticking boxes — it’s about watching understanding unfold.

Every prompt, every journal page, and every care routine is mapped to learning outcomes, but it’s also wrapped in kindness and story.

“When you nurture a newt, you nurture a learner".

  • “You don’t have to be a teacher to grow a learner...

just someone who believes in small steps and gentle guidance.”
  • A Note for Parents

Budlings are ready for more responsibility — and they thrive when curiosity meets structure.

This guide helps you nurture independent learning while ensuring every activity remains playful, purposeful, and curriculum-aligned.

Designed in Western Australia, it supports STEM Integration, Wellbeing Education, and English Language Skills through reflective journaling and creative problem-solving.

“Every Budling learns that patience is science in disguise — you can’t rush a seed, or a discovery."

At the end of each term, you’ll have a complete, print-ready record that fits seamlessly into your annual homeschool report.

  • Supporting Learning at Home

You don’t need a background in education to guide your child through Wigglewood.

Each activity is intentionally designed to build confidence for both of you — showing how science, wellbeing, and creativity intertwine.

    Try these small, powerful habits:

Ask “what did you notice today?”
instead of “what did you learn?”

    Celebrate small progress...
a sprout, a new root, a new word.

    Share your own wonder...

    curiosity is contagious.

    Leave room for laughter...

the giggles count as learning too.

  • How It Works for Homeschool Families

    1. Investigate — Your child chooses a newt to observe and plan a small experiment around it.

    2. Experiment & Record — Weekly journal prompts guide them through measuring, comparing, and adjusting conditions such as light, moisture, or soil.

    3. Reflect & Share — They interpret their results, discuss what worked, and celebrate every discovery — even the unexpected ones.

All Budling activities align with the WA Science Curriculum (Years 4–6) and cross-link to English (communication & reflective writing), Mathematics (measurement & data), and
    Technologies (design & process thinking).

“A Giggle and a Guess!”

Because sometimes, patience grows just like seedlings do — a little each day.

“A Curious Case of Truth and Tangles”

Sometimes the best learning starts with a little nonsense.

Newt & Nonsense isn’t just a quiz — it’s a mystery. Two things are true, and one… is not.

Your mission: think, research, reflect, and decide before checking your answer online.

It’s a practice in patience, logic, and laughter — because clever minds know that truth grows better when you enjoy the hunt.

CONTINUE THE JOURNEY

When your Budling’s curiosity outgrows the page, they’re ready to become Sassy Saplings (Ages 12–15)...
where scientific thinking meets real-world challenges and collaborative creativity.
