'Seedling Scouts'

Learning that grows as gently as your child does.

6-8 YEARS | Term Based | Homeschool Educational Resources

Where Curiosity Becomes Discovery

..............................................

At this age, curiosity blooms into questions — “How does it grow?”, “Why does it lean toward the sun?”

The Seedling Scouts program helps children explore the living world with gentle structure and joyful discovery.

They begin to record what they notice, test what they wonder, and celebrate what they find — learning that every experiment starts with care.

“Science begins with a seed… and a child who dares to look closely.”

Learning Foundations
  • STEM — Curiosity in Action

Students measure, record, and compare — discovering how sunlight, soil, and care affect growth.

Simple “try again” activities teach the scientific method through play.

SEL — Nurturing Empathy & Confidence

Scouts learn that every living thing needs different kinds of care. Through teamwork (siblings, parents, or peers), they build empathy and communication.

Soft Skills — Problem Solving & Perseverance

When a plant wilts or doesn’t sprout, students learn to investigate, adjust, and try again — turning setbacks into understanding.

 Rooted in Western Australia

  • Wigglewood Newt Academy was created here in WA — where the soil, sun, and seasons inspire every lesson.

Each program aligns with WA homeschooling standards and is written to grow confidence, care, and connection — not just academic outcomes.

    .............................................

“We don’t just grow plants — we grow patience, curiosity, and heart.”

Wigglewood Parent Resources

Helping you guide, record, and celebrate learning that grows.

Behind every thriving Wigglewood learner is a parent (or carer) quietly tending to the roots — encouraging, recording, and cheering on small discoveries.

The Wigglewood Newt Academy Soul Project Program is here to make that role easier.

You’ll find guidance notes, printable templates, and practical advice that connects each Wigglewood Homeschool Guide to the WA Curriculum and Homeschooling Standards.

Homeschooling through Wigglewood isn’t about ticking boxes — it’s about watching understanding unfold.

Every prompt, every journal page, and every care routine is mapped to learning outcomes, but it’s also wrapped in kindness and story.

.....................................................

“When you nurture a newt, you nurture a learner".

  • “You don’t have to be a teacher to grow a learner...

just someone who believes in small steps and gentle guidance.”
  • A Note for Parents

The Seedling Scouts program balances discovery with discipline — giving children the structure they need to experiment safely, and the freedom they need to fall in love with science.

Each activity supports the WA Homeschool Curriculum outcomes in Science, English, and Wellbeing Education, while nurturing independence and curiosity.

“Wigglewood learning reminds us that the best scientists are simply great observers with kind hearts.”

  • Record-Keeping Made Simple

Wigglewood’s parent templates are designed to help you meet Western Australia’s homeschooling documentation requirements — without losing the joy in the process.

    Each Parent Pack includes:

Learning Evidence Sheets — for photos, drawings, or data tables

Term Reflection Pages — summarising learning goals, activities, and outcomes

Growth Log — simple format to track both plant and student development

Self-Assessment Prompts — encouraging students to describe what they learned in their own words

At the end of each term, you’ll have a complete, print-ready record that fits seamlessly into your annual homeschool report.

  • Supporting Learning at Home

You don’t need a background in education to guide your child through Wigglewood.

Each activity is intentionally designed to build confidence for both of you — showing how science, wellbeing, and creativity intertwine.

    Try these small, powerful habits:

Ask “what did you notice today?”
instead of “what did you learn?”

    Celebrate small progress...
a sprout, a new root, a new word.

    Share your own wonder...

    curiosity is contagious.

    Leave room for laughter...

the giggles count as learning too.

  •  How It Works for Homeschool Families

    1. Plant Your Curiosity — Your child selects their seedling and sets up their growing space.

    2. Observe & Record — Through simple investigations, they track growth, light, moisture, and changes over time.

    3. Reflect & Discuss — Journal prompts and “What do you notice?” questions connect observation to understanding.

All activities align with the WA Science Curriculum (Years 1–3) and Design & Technologies outcomes, with additional links to English (writing & communication) and HASS (understanding natural environments).

“A Giggle and a Guess!”

Because sometimes, patience grows just like seedlings do — a little each day.

“A Treasure Hunt for the Truth”

When your brain needs a stretch and your smile needs a reason — that’s when Newt & Nonsense begins!

Each card gives you two true facts and one totally ridiculous one.

Your job? Find out which one belongs in the compost heap!

You’ll need patience, curiosity, and your best detective skills — because the real answer is hidden on the Mai-Newt website.

And while you’re hunting, don’t forget to laugh… it’s part of the learning magic.

CONTINUE THE JOURNEY

As confidence grows, Seedling Scouts naturally step into Budlings (Ages 9–11) — where they begin designing, experimenting, and documenting like true young scientists.
